Stop the epic tax.

What you need to know:

22% Sales Tax on Everything: If the EPIC Tax passes, economic experts project Nebraska will have to raise the sales tax to an estimated 22% or more on everything under this new tax scheme.

Creates New Taxes: Hardworking Nebraskans will be forced to pay NEW taxes on medicine, health care, legal advice, dental work, food and dozens of other everyday necessities.

Benefits the Rich: The EPIC tax claims it will eliminate property taxes, income taxes and corporate taxes. But working families and low-income Nebraskans that have to spend a larger percentage of their income on basic necessities will pay more in net taxes while the largest landowners and the rich will be given the biggest tax breaks on their property and high incomes.

Taxes Home Ownership Out of Reach: Nebraskans will be forced to pay an estimated 22% more for a new house—making it nearly impossible for working families and young families to own a home. Renters will have to pay a sales tax on monthly rental payments. The 22% tax will apply to building materials and basic home repairs for plumbing and electricity.

Eliminates Local Control: All tax revenue will be sent to Lincoln for the State Legislature to decide how much money will go back to local communities - much like they do now with state education funding. Currently, only a quarter of school districts in Nebraska receive state school aid.

Killing Small Businesses: Nearly 75% of Nebraskans live near or within a one-hour drive of bordering states. A 22% sales tax on goods and services will drive people to make purchases outside of Nebraska—making it impossible for small businesses to be competitive.

Eliminates Taxes for Absentee Millionaire Landowners from Out of State: EPIC gives the biggest tax break to millionaires living out of state. Instead of paying their fair share for owning land in Nebraska, out of state millionaires will no longer contribute any money to state taxes. Nebraska families will have to foot the bill.

Protect Hardworking Nebraskans.

Stand against a 400% increase in sales taxes.

“As a small business, we would have a hard time competing because of the prices neighboring states will be able to offer.”

Andrea Schafer, Premier Chevrolet Buick GMC Beatrice

“The EPIC tax will make inflation look tame. Families cannot afford to pay a 22% sales tax for our children's doctor visits, clothes, and school supplies. This would be a disaster for Nebraska families and small businesses.”

Craig & Kelli Safranek, Broken Bow

"This proposal sends all new tax revenues to Lincoln, trusting that state politicians will find a way to fund local priorities while giving them undue influence over local budgeting and decision-making. Local governments are best positioned to meet local needs.”

Josh Moenning, Mayor of Norfolk

“The EPIC tax will put homeownership and the American Dream out of reach for young families and working families.”

Natalie Martinez, Realtor Lexington

“This proposal primarily benefits large landowners and the wealthy. Regular people and families have to spend a much larger percentage of their income on basic needs, and this increases costs for them.”

Julie Pavelka, Gretna
